Small Group Theology with Rick Warren | Church Strategies & History | Forum
April 21, 2012
Who better to share a theology of small groups then Rick Warren? In the video below he gives a Biblical basis for the small group model in today's church.
First off, he breaks down the rapid growth of the church in the Book of Acts which begs the question, "What did they do with all those people and how did they effectively minister to all of them?" He refers to a dual strategy in the New Testament of large group worship and small group fellowship.
He connects these Biblical concepts to the secret of Saddleback's growth (over 20,000 in weekly attendance) by saying, "For 31 years we've met in temple courts and from house to house."
Some of the verses that stood out to me were...
"So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart..." -Acts 2:46, NKJV
And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ." -Acts 5:42, NKJV
"Likewise greet the church that is in their house." -Romans 16:5
